Psychotherapy (counseling) or simply, therapy, is talking with a trained professional about your fears, concerns, behaviors, desires and dreams. My goal as a therapist is to help you better understand and accept yourself.
In working with me, you will learn about your behaviors, thoughts, feelings and beliefs. Therapy allows you to understand and take control of your life through new knowledge and healthier coping skills.
Therapy is a process that allows a person to work through situations where they feel stuck. If you feel ready to change (or want to be ready to change), contact me.
I will also help you to:
• Argue more productively
• Listen better
• Learn when to confront and when to let go
• Figure out your triggers
• Trust each other againI will not:
• Help you to “fix” your partner
• Let you tune out when your partner is trying to communicate
• Take sides
Sometimes there is a betrayal in a relationship, sometimes there are challenges talking about sex or money or there can be challenges with feeling heard and seen by one’s partner. I’ve studied both Emotionally Focused Therapy (Dr. Sue Johnson) and IMAGO Therapy (Dr. Harville Hendrix and Dr. Helen LaKelly Hunt). Both are schools of thought that utilize strengths, rather than blame. We will work together to learn how to communicate more effectively so that each person feels supported by the other.
Being a member of a group provides the opportunity for intimacy with people who will be/are, very important to you. The experience helps answer questions that we have about ourselves, that are not as easily answered in our daily lives.
How do I know who I am?
Do I know how others react to me?
How close do I get to others?
Am I comfortable with myself?
Do I express all of my feelings?
Am I able to say, “Yes?” How about, “No?”
We will explore these questions together, in an environment that is both safe and interactive. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to me.
Neurofeedback is a method of training the brain to respond to life more effectively. The type of system that I use, NeurOptimal®, is I believe, the most advanced one there is. NeurOptimal® works directly with the central nervous systems, using a broad range of frequencies. It gives the brain information about what it is doing. The brain uses that information to reorganize itself to optimal health.
The NeurOptimal® system is quite complex but it does all of the work for you. All you have to do is sit or recline, in my office. There are fives sensors that are placed on your scalp and ears. The sensors are attached with a conductive paste that is easily removed with water. Nothing goes into your brain. The sensors are monitoring the brain when it changes states and simply letting you brain know, what it just did. You sit back and listen to relaxing music for 33 minutes.
Your central nervous system takes in the feedback provided by minute interruptions to the music and uses that information to become more resilient, flexible and stable. It is virtually side effect free.
Neurofeedback, decreases stress and decreasing stress creates calmness and increases the ability to be present. By the end of each session, many report feeling lighter, less anxious, and refreshed.
The following are a sampling of results reported by those who have trained using NeurOptimal®:
Decreased ADD/ADHD (children and adults)
Play sports better
The cognitive and emotional effects of chemotherapy are lessened
Migraine relief
Notice improved concentration
Decreased and eliminated addictions
Take better care of self
Have more patience
Have more confidence
Feel less emotionally sensitive and vulnerable
Able to see another’s point of view
Anger and anxiety are less prominent
Less depressed
Improvement in sleep
Respond rather than react
Many more positive changes can and do take effect.
